Fraternal Greetings Brethren,

And so with the June Meeting, our Masonic year comes to a close. I wrote, at the beginning of the year, about a young sailor learning from his Captain that anyone, at any given time, could be the most important person on his ship. Being the right guy, doing the right thing, at the right time elevates one to being the most important Brother because, upon his shoulders, the success of the Lodge depends.  I consider this past Masonic year a big success for Saint Albans because our Lodge is comprised of so many Brothers who step up when the Lodge needs them most.

Among these Brothers who stepped up there are some stand outs who’ve really made the difference. The Trustees are among these Brothers of course; they’ve made some great changes to the Lodge- New Refrigerator, Chaffing Dishes, Counters, Chairs and a flat screen TV.  Past Masters like RW. Jim Carroll, RW Paul Kennedy, W. Jim Haskell, W. Richard Enegren and W. Glen Cunningham have all pitched in to guide the officers in improving ourselves in Masonry; and W. Haskell served double duty doing exemplary work as Secretary. Other Brothers who’ve really stepped up; Br. Paul Izzo, W. Gary Hobel, Br. Ron Buck, Br. Eddie Porreca, Br. Sean Adam, Br. Bob Churchill, Br. Scott Hanson, Br. George Hall and so many more have made our Lodge vibrant and successful. Let’s also take a second to appreciate Br. Allan Haskell not just for all the terrific meals he put before us, but also for the new Libation Station in the NE corner of the hall.

Now, of course, of all the Brothers who should be mentioned, the top of my list is the Officers of the Lodge. The Officer Corps did a phenomenal job this year. The floor work was outstanding and the memorization matches up against any Lodge in the District. These guys have made the Lodge proud. Because the Officer group is really coming into its own, for the first time next year we’ll have an entire Officer Suite with no empty chairs. Of these Officers who will be sitting “in line”, none are Past Masters; all are New Masons earnestly working to earn their opportunity to sit in the East one day. That bodes well for the future of SAL!

So please join us for three last events before we go dark for the summer. On June 9th, we’ll be marching in the Founders Day Parade for the first time in many years. RW Stanley Gaw has been putting in great efforts to make this event strong. Masons from the 7th and 6th District will be joining us. A bus will be transporting Brothers to and from their cars to make things easy. On June 11th, we’ll have the last meeting of the year- If you haven’t stopped by in a while, this would be a good time to visit with your Brothers as we elect the new suite for next year. Lastly on June 24th, the Masters Fair will be held and promises to be a great time for the whole family.

Thank you, my Brothers, for the opportunity to serve in the East this past year… It’s been a true honor.

W. Tom
